Georgia's Independence Day is a holiday of great importance for Georgia. The day begins with a parade and ends up with concerts, laser-shows and fireworks.
Gaumarjos! Welcome to Georgia!
Georgia is a beautiful country with rich history and an amazing diversity of nature. For outdoor and mountain enthusiasts, as for people who love the combination of nature and culture, it is a perfect place. During your holiday in Georgia, you can enjoy an array of exciting tours, stay in some beautiful Georgia hotels and immerse yourself in Georgia's unique culture.
Georgians like to tell the anecdote that when God created the Earth and distributed the land to the people, nothing was left when for the Georgians. However, God had pity on them and generously gave them the piece of land he initially had reserved for himself.
But of course Georgia is not an unspoiled paradise. Historical events reflected on its nature, for good and for bad. So you can visit and enjoy ancient churches, monasteries, towers and fortresses that withstood the test of different invasions, adding a sublime charm to the spectacular mountain landscapes. However, visitors will still find numerous post-soviet concrete ruins that fit less well into the country. Georgia tours will take you to explore the countries rich history, cultural gems and amazing natural wonders.
The cave monasteries and cave towns in Georgia, like Vardzia, Davit Gareja and Uplistsikhe are definitely worth a visit. Our small country has a unique climate, with the Black Sea coast next to the Caucasus Mountains. You could ski in the morning and raft down wild rivers in the afternoon, make a bird watching excursion or simply relax at the beach. Skiers enjoy the fine Caucasus powder in Gudauri or the Bakuriani ski resorts and others enjoy climbing the innumerable peaks with tour-skis. With so many exciting things to see & do in Georgia it will be difficult to choose!
Georgia has a multicultural history, where people of different religions have always lived together, not without conflicts but still most of the times peacefully. Orthodox churches, Turkish mosques and Jewish synagogues stand side by side. Check out our map of Georgia to see the location of some of these great Georgian highlights, along with the location of hotels in Georgia that can be booked through our site.
Georgian feasts called ‘supra', and also tables in family guesthouses in general, are always full of different dishes. Foods are generally served together with Georgian wine, wether you are in a simple guest house or one of the finest restaurants in Georgia. If you add Georgian hospitality to all these, an unforgettable experience is guaranteed. However, if you don't speak Georgian it may be of help to have a guide accompanying you to discover the hidden treasures of Georgia.
After becoming independent in 1991 our country went through a dark period with civil wars, causing a lack of food and electricity. The collapse of the Soviet Empire caused the decrease in Georgian tourism, well-developed by that time. Only recently Georgians have found resources to attract visitors and introduce our culture, nature and people to them. There is now once again a large variety of accommodation in Georgia to choose from, and tour companies in Georgia have a startling variety of Georgia tours to enjoy. The dichotomy between the rich and poor is large and the people in the mountain areas lack opportunities. We are committed to provide opportunities for people in remote areas and for tourism that does not destroy its own resources.
Despite the image that is portrayed on certain web pages of foreign ministries in Europe or the US, Georgia is a safe country to visit. There were frictions, unrest and even kidnapping several years ago, but now the only unsafe places are conflict zones of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, where the borders are closed and well-kept. You can visit Georgian mountains, enjoy the rivers and sea - go everywhere except the conflict zones. So if Georgia's nature and culture are calling out to you; if Georgian cuisine is tempting your tastebuds, and a stay in a great Georgia hotel or trip to visit the many tourist attractions in Georgia are luring you, do not hesitate to come!
